What is Reiki?
Reiki is a system of natural healing which is thousands of years old. It is believed that the technique was first used by Tibetan Buddhist monks and was rediscovered in the 1800’s by Mikao Usui.
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy (Rei is Universal, Ki is Life Energy). Prana is the Sanskrit version as is chi the Chinese and mana in Hawaiian. It has been identified by all cultures. It is the vital force that flows through all matter and animates all life. This can be used as a powerful form of healing called Reiki. Reiki is not a faith system, all that is required is the willingness to heal and be healed for the highest good of ourselves and others.
The Reiki therapist channels the life energy, or Life-force as it is often called, through his or her hands into the receiver’s body which enhances the body’s own natural ability to heal itself. Reiki works on all levels of a person’s being, thereby reaching the cause as well as the physical symptoms. All illness and disease comes about as a result of the natural flow of the Life-force being impaired in some way. Reiki helps to reinstate and balance out the flow of the Life-force through the body. When the Life-force flows correctly, it is much easier to take up the task of experiencing life as we would desire. Attitudes change, tiredness recedes, and our goals no longer appear impossible or so far away. It has been described as feeling like ‘an inner workout’!
As the Reiki healing energy moves through the healer, dispelling blocks and negativity, before being channelled through to the recipient, it does not drain the healer. In fact, the more a reiki practitioner gives of the energy, the more energy is received.
The wonderful thing about Reiki is that anyone can learn how to 'do' it. By being attuned to the Reiki energies a person can begin to work on themselves on a variety of levels. As well as self-treating a person can also work on family and close friends. Once a person has been attuned to Reiki, the channels will always be open, it is up to the person to practise this effective healing system.
Why does the world need Reiki?
Currently the effects of our modern society place enormous stress on our systems. Pollution, denatured and processed foods, artificial environments and overwork all increase stress levels.
This pressured, unhealthy Western lifestyle can lead us away from our true values and authentic, creative selves. We can then become prey to losing our vitality, health and happiness as we drift passively into physical toxicity, depression and spiritual malaise. We know that mind, body and spirit are inextricably linked. It is therefore inevitable that as our health and vitality diminish, so too does our precious life- energy, happiness, effectiveness and fulfilment in life.
What does a treatment involve?
Reiki is a simple yet powerful process. Treatments and frequency are individually tailored to the receiver’s needs and condition. In some cases Reiki can be given daily for a few days and then on a weekly or monthly basis. In most cases, the treatment lasts for about an hour and is carried out on a healing couch. The receiver remains fully dressed whilst the Reiki therapist goes through a set healing format. This format is discussed with the receiver prior to the treatment. Sex, age and condition are of no concern to the Reiki therapist as the receiver’s own body controls the healing process by only taking from the treatment the amount of life energy it requires at that time.

At Reiki Wisdom, our treatments usually last about 1 hour. Your initial appointment will include a consultation as part of the price and experience.
Do I need to remove any clothing?
No, absolutely not. You will remain fully clothed at all times, except for your shoes. Some clients also prefer to have a light blanket covering them during the treatment.
what does a treatment involve?
After an initial consultation you will be asked to remove your shoes and lay on a padded therapist couch. The room should be a peaceful and sacred healing space. The Reiki therapist will then take a few moments to connect with the energy then place his/her hands on or near various parts of the body including head, torso, knees and feet. A Reiki treatment is gentle and non-invasive.
Can you diagnose what is wrong with me?
No, Reiki practitioners/Masters are not allowed to diagnose any medical conditions. Be wary of any Reiki practitioner who does. We work to a strict code of ethics and do not pretend to be qualified doctors. We do not, nor should any Reiki practitioner make outlandish claims about miracle cures.
How does reiki help to heal?
By calming the mind and raising the life force energy in the body. Disease (Dis-ease) is a state of disruption in the physical, emotional or mental body of a person caused by a blockage within the energy field of that person. Reiki administered by a good Reiki practitioner can help to clear these blockages and promote good health.
